Ed-break is a new parental control solution for iOS that turns screen time into an opportunity to learn.

Adolescents globally average about 7.5 hours of screen time per day. That’s the highest of any age group. But what if parents could set automated breaks that interrupt any other app with curated lessons that match the child’s in-school learning?

Well, that’s Ed-Break.

Did you know?

During homework or exam prep, teens lose focus quickly. A UK survey found they can only revise for about 14 minutes before getting distracted, with 40% citing social media (e.g., Snapchat, TikTok) as a constant distraction.

A large meta-analysis of 63 studies across 28 countries shows a statistically significant negative relationship between smartphone addiction and academic performance.

The average teen picks up their phone 51 times per day, and older teens reach up to 100+. Primarily, they’re going on social media (42%), YouTube (19%), and mobile games (11%).

Teens with problematic smartphone use are twice as likely to experience anxiety, and many (one in eight) actively want help reducing their usage.

Around 40% of both teens and parents report regular arguments about screen time.

How Does Ed-Break Work?

Your child uses their device like normal.

Once the daily screen time reaches your chosen threshold, Ed-Break pops up with a lesson.

The child then needs to complete their lesson before they can go back to other apps.

Getting started is easy.

First, set up the app:

1

Download Ed-Break from the app store onto your child’s iOS device.

2

Then set your child’s grade level.

3

Choose a content field from mathematics, grammar, languages, and more.

4

Define an interruption period. How often should screen time be broken up?

Then, have an open conversation with your child about this new set up. Ed-Break is designed to accommodate a child’s social desire for device time, while also not compromising on their education.

Ed-Break is easy to configure for breaks like school holidays, educational progression like graduating to a new grade, or switches in focus like moving from science to music.

Ed-Break also includes a suite of other parental control tools, like:

App Blocking:

Block any app or game from being used on the device.

App Time Limits:

Set limits on how long any single app can be used.

Custom Restrictions:

Tailor the device to your child’s needs.
